Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

Why is it that showing pubic hair or any sex or foul language is an instant R rating or NC-17 while showing someone blown up is only an R rating.

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

NC-17 and X movies revolve around nothing but sex. Whereas R movies who show similiar things, as well as death murder and mayhem.

When we see things blown up, or watch people get murdered like in Crank ot Hostel...two recent movies action and horror.

We can see that everyday on the news.

We are getting desentized day by day to violence, thanks to the newscasters on CNN and FOX as well as local networks. But we are not to sex!

Sex although open is still a taboo subject to many.

Christains, Muslims, all religions have some kind of taboo against sex. And if you truly think about what is happening around on the news...if affects everyone.

Best example is look at the concern over gay and lesbian sex as wella shetero in the news. The mere fact that we still see controversy over that should tell you so much!

They can accept violence, they can accept murder

They just can't accept sex in any way shape or form. So I guess my point is I don't think it has anything to do with pubic hair or the act itself.

I think it goes with the fact, that we as a whole or not supposed to think about it. To them we can think about anything else but that.

And until they realize, that it is a basic part of human nature, to desire the act of sex. It will never be fully accepted in mainstream society.

i dont know. i wonder that sometimes too.

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

i dont know what you're talking about...I've seen lots of R movies with pubic hair...some with penises (Borat)

I've seen lots of PG-13 movies with people blown up as well as foul language

it takes a lot to get NC-17...for instance showgirls...which had naked girls every 30 seconds. most movies will edit until they can get R because they won't do good business with NC-17 rating

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

Fundamentalist Christians don't believe in allowing nudity, but do believe in blowing stuff up. Unfortunately, there are enough of them to have political/social sway.

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

I thought it was just because the MPAA was just arbitray and influenced by Lobby Groups; guess I was wrong :-)

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

Well, basically the MPAA is EXTREMELY subjective. There are no set guidelines for exact rules on ratings. The MPAA rating board is made up of conservative housewives that are very biased against sexuality. To them they would rather show someone's head getting cut off than a sex scene with partial or even no nudity.

If you want to learn more about the MPAA and the absurd rating system, check out the documentary "This Film is Not Yet Rated."

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

When it comes to what constitutes what rating, it's all subjective, and up to the ratings board. Case in point: the film Team America: World Police garnered an NC-17 rating, despite the fact that the film has absolutely no human beings in it. But, Matt Stone and Trey Parker trimed the sex scene (which originally featured a golden shower among other rather disgusting stuff), and voila! The film got an R.

There's another story of another film that didn't re-edit anything at all, just resubmitted their film, exactly as it was the first time they submitted it, and also got reduced from an NC-17 to an R.

The fact of the matter is, It's completely up to the ratings board to decided if a film is suitable for what audience. But, in America, sex and nudity is considered to risque for a younger crowd, yet violence is not.

Why is pubic hair an instant NC-17 rating?

Foul language doesn't usually get an NC-17 rating. Movies can be full of the F-word and still receive an R rating. Graphic violence sometimes gets an NC-17 rating. It depends on how graphic the violence is. Showing someone getting blown up is not that graphic to most people. That can usually get an R-rating. Showing someone getting blown up and then seeing cannibals eat parts of the body will probably get an NC-17 rating. Showing pubic hair doesn't always get an NC-17 rating. Lots of R-rated movies have had brief nude scenes in them. I think the movie "Showgirls" got an NC-17 rating because naked women were on the screen almost every ten minutes. I'm not sure what kind of rating Showgirls would have gotten if the women had shaved. It might have gotten a XXX rating.
