A domestic long hair cat showed up at my door. From looking at his teeth he is 5-6 months old.?

He has what appears to be a runny nose and eyes that look infected. I am assuming this is a respiratory disease of some kind. I really don't want to invest much in this kitten until I'm sure it's going to stay. Any suggestions on what kind of medicine to give him without having the expense of a vet. Thanks!!!

Hi there...consider contacting your local rescues/shelters and ask if they know who does the trap/neuter/release (TNR) program in your area. These organizations raise donations to spay/neuter and vaccinate strays so you wouldn't have to invest anything but offer in the way of help by feeding the cat.

Here's an article about TNR programs: http://www.neighborhoodcats.org/

Actually, he might have a cold and then he is young. A vet visit wouldn't be much since the kitten is so young. Plus, you might want to make sure it's nothing more serious. Thanks for helping the lhomeless pets that are thrown to the side.

You should make your decision right away. This kitten needs help. Shots, worming, treatment for its eye, neutering, etc. That gets expensive if you don't want the cat for your own or are not into that kind of charity. If you decide not to help it or make it yours the kindest thing to do is have animal control or a humane society take it. They will decide to treat it and place it for adoption or euthanize it if it is carrying FIV or feline leukemia.

Don't just leave it out there to be sick and possibly go blind from the infection. It is a cruel life for a young cat on its own.

Call your local shelter and see if anyone is missing their kitten. If you can't keep the kitten or want to invest money in him/her. See if a local shelter can take the kitten in and give it care. Make sure first the shelter or humane society does not euthanize. They will be able to care for the kitten get it healthy and find a home. Good luck..
