I see women wearing the scarves that cover their hair and I can't figure out how they are tied. Is there a specific method to it? Also, is there a difference between the women who show some hair under the scarf and none and women who wear patterned scarves and those that just wear the plain scarves?

The scarves are held in with pins. Some tie them up physically.

There are no differences apart from cultural ones. Nothing religiously significant tho.

Some Muslims see themselves better than the rest if they cover up the whole of the hair. I say its the intention that counts.
