Does my hair contain catnip?

This may be a weird question but I have short curly hair and everytime I wash it and show it to my cat, she rushes over and digs her face and paws into it. Her actions are similar to that of catnip because she starts to get all frisky and after a few minutes when I show her my hair again, she's not interested. Could it be my shampoo ( I use Selsun Blue)?

My cat has always done the same to my hair and I use a natural shampoo. Each cat is different with what "nips" them up. I once had a cat who went crazy off the walls after licking green olive! My vet says some research has shown that a mix of their own pheromones (comes out of their whiskers when they rub their cheeks agains items, unsmellable to us) with specific scents can cause certain reactions in cats. and if cats are like humans they may have their own individual pheromone footprint/scent. Therefore each getting a different scent from the mix. Maybe your hairs curls get the kitty going to..I am a full grown female and when I touch my husband curls..i just gotta keep digging in..and get frisky!!!LOL

peace.

Could be... dandruff shampoo has a "minty" smell to it. My female does the same thing with strawberries.. goes right to that bag when I bring home the groceries, and rolls on the strawberries. She won't eat them though.

Cats.... go figure lol

my cat lickes my hair when i come outta the shower

Does my hair contain catnip?

No, LOL, but cats are very sensitive to smell andbut it';s entirely possible for the shampoo to contain valerian or honeysuckle, both of which also elicit a similair response form cats.

Apart from that, cats love things that smell nice, some love sitting under rosebushes, just smelling it all day long, some like other flowers, at least your cat has good taste!

most times cats like moving things to play with. IE.. hair, string, ball of dust, long strand of grass(foxtail), and sometimes your fingers. not your shampoo ok.

Does my hair contain catnip?

the only way your hair could contain catnip is if you eat it- do you?!!! maybe the cat likes the smell of your shampoo, or maybe your hair reminds her of nuzzling her mother.

Does my hair contain catnip?

No haha

Does my hair contain catnip?

I'd say it is the shampoo you're using. My husband's aftershave "Kouros" gets my cat really frisky. Anything with a musky or ammonia smell would simulate cat pheromones.

Does my hair contain catnip?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm glad to know that my cat isn't the only one that does this! I had to shut him out of my room at night when I was taking showers before bed because he'd make my hair into a horrible rat's nest kneading it!

Does my hair contain catnip?

My kitty kneads my hair at night, when I'm trying to sleep. He doesn't really go for it any other time, except sometimes when I'm at my computer. Overall, it doesn't matter the time, (he'll do it in the morning) or whether I washed my hair an hour ago or 8 hours ago)

It could be just a a comfort thing, that she likes the smell of your hair, especially after you shower. It could be the time of day that makes her frisky, rather than the smell.

And as someone else put it.. she's a cat, go figure.... since when do they ever make any sense?

Does my hair contain catnip?

I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE CATNIP ON YOUR HAIR...LOL..... IT MIGHT BE THE SMELL OF YOUR SHAMPOO THAT SHE LIKES. WHEN EVER I CLEAN MY FLOOR WITH CLOROX SPRAY EVERYWHERE THE ONE THAT'S SAFE TO USE AROUND PETS ...WELL... LET'S JUST SAY SHE'LL BE SWIMMING ON IT IN NO TIME!!! CATS ARE FUNNY THAT WAY!!! I LOVE MY FUR BABY!!!!

most dogs as well as cats want there owners to smell like them, after taking the shower you have just washed there sent off of you. This is why the animals aways rub up on you after you come home or after a shower. Another reason is if you just got home you have sweat and they like the salt.

not sure if this helps
